Fresh air, the tranquility of the mountains, and the varied natural surroundings. Short breaks with a picnic, a cozy atmosphere in mountain huts, and beautiful panoramic views. These things immediately awaken the adventurous spirit in hikers and mountain enthusiasts. Shoes are by far the most important part of the equipment, as no other item of clothing is exposed to such stress. But what exactly should you consider when choosing hiking shoes?

The market is enormous, and it is easy to feel overwhelmed when looking for hiking shoes. What many people do not know is that not all hiking shoes are the same. There are touring shoes, hiking shoes, hiking boots, trekking shoes, and mountaineering boots. The footwear should be adapted to the particular tour.

Categorization B

The challenging tour! Proper hiking shoes provide the most support and are the perfect companion for 2–3-week hikes. With their durable, breathable, and softly cushioned material, nothing stands in the way of a hiking marathon. The rule of thumb is: the more demanding the upcoming hike, the sturdier the shoes.

The upper material of the hiking shoes

Sustainable, eco-conscious cow nubuck leather gives the shoe the highest quality. Cow nubuck leather manages moisture inside the shoe more effectively, and leather adapts to the shape of your foot throughout the day. This creates a better foot climate inside the shoe, enhancing your comfort. Even in dry, cold conditions, your feet stay drier and warmer.

Lightweight mesh textile inserts provide comfort, ventilation, and durability. The debris guard around the hiking shoe keeps dirt and mud at bay. Cleaning has never been easier!

Cleaning tips for hiking boots

Cleaning and care are very important to keep the shoes in good condition for as long as possible. Hiking shoes made of cowhide nubuck leather require more care, as the leather could otherwise lose its properties due to harsh weather conditions and constant use.

Very heavy dirt, such as mud, can be removed with a sponge and warm water. Occasionally, also remove sweat salts from the inside and allow the shoes to dry thoroughly.

NUBUK + TEXTIL 100ML can be used to care for nubuck leather, helping it last longer and protecting it from environmental influences. This is a care lotion that contains, among other ingredients, beeswax, lanolin, and aloe vera.

No room in your backpack for several shoe-cleaning products? No problem! With the SCHUHPFLEGE-SET, you have 2 products that allow you to thoroughly remove dirt from your hiking shoes.

Extra tips

• All shoes should be stored in a well-ventilated room at a normal temperature. Shoes should never be stored in the basement, as the room’s humidity is too high. The following also applies to hiking boots: If they are left in the closet for too long, the sole may come off the next time they are used. The sole dries out and slowly begins to break apart.

• If you have been out in the rain or the humidity was very high, let the shoe dry thoroughly. Shoes made of genuine leather must never be placed on a radiator or treated with any other heat source. If leather dries too quickly, it becomes brittle and loses its elasticity.
